| Further Information: This moth is usually found on tree bark where it has very good camoulfage since the wings have patterns resembling the rough structure of a tree bark. This species is localised and found in wooded areas where white poplar grows since it feeds on this tree. A very interesting defensive mechanism used by this species is the bright red pair of hind wings which are flashed when a predator nears the moth. This may startle or even scare the predator away. For Malta, this is a protected species. |
